our history

Permanent Electric was launched in 1981 when owner and founder Terry Roberts, who had finished his apprenticeship in 1971, decided to pursuit his ambitions to own and operate an electrical company.

His vision was to provide quality and skilled workmanship to the community of Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding Algoma area. Although Permanent Electric originated in the basement of Terry’s home, the company soon grew to have a well-known reputation for offering quality services and professional expertise. It was not until 2012 that Terry decided to pass on the baton to his long time employee and Master Electrician Mike Vallee and his son, Electrician, Steve Roberts. He remains involved with Permanent Electric as the original founder.

Steve Roberts began his training in the electrical field at the young age of 14 while working alongside of his father, Terry Roberts. Throughout high school, Steve spent his weekends, summer holidays, and free-time becoming more educated and informed about the electrical trade. Steve went on to complete seven years of university education and received qualifications in English, History, Human Kinetics, and Education. When returning home to Sault Ste. Marie from Nova Scotia, Steve enrolled in a trade school and began completing his apprenticeship as an electrician and completed the program in 2009. In 2012, Steve and long-time friend and coworker, Mike Vallee, purchased Permanent Electric together.

Permanent Electric hired Mike Vallee as an apprentice in the summer of 1997. He received his qualification as an electrician in 1999. In 2012, Mike decided to have a more active role in Permanent Electric and bought the company with Steve Roberts.
